ABC News Names Dan Harris 'Nightline' Co-Anchor

ABC News is continuing to reshuffle its Nightline team.

Dan Harris, an anchor/reporter and weekend Good Morning America host, was named co-anchor of the late evening news show, ABC News president Ben Sherwood said in a statement on Friday. Current Nightline anchor Bill Weir, who joined the program in 2010, will be departing the network.

"Dan is one of our most versatile anchors-covering many of the biggest news stories for all of our broadcasts since he joined the network in 2000, including mass shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, Aurora, Colorado and Tucson," Sherwood said in his statement.

"He has covered natural disasters from Haiti to Myanmar to New Orleans. He has also reported from combat zones in Afghanistan, Israel, Gaza and the West Bank, and has reported from Iraq on six occasions," he added.

Nightline's anchor desk was reworked over the summer when legal analyst Dan Abrams was tapped to be an anchor, joining Cynthia McFadden. At the time, Terry Moran became the chief foreign correspondent for the network.

Weir added on Twitter about his future: "All will be revealed soon enough. And I'm really grateful that they are letting me say goodbye on tonight's @Nightline."
