Director, UAS faculty and staff, State and Federal agency personnel, Native corporations, private hatcheries, faculty and staff from other
University of Alaska campuses, trainees, students, and other fisheries related business owners, operators, and managers. Responsibilities
include education, demonstration, providing outreach programs in aquaculture, fisheries management, and teaching assignments that include
introductory fisheries courses. Research with undergraduates, department service, and student advising are expected.
Frequent travel throughout Alaska, including outreach locations is required.
This is a 9-month tenure-track faculty appointment, covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Successful applicant must relocate/reside in Sitka, Alaska.
Required:
- Master's degree required in related field, Ph.D preferred
- Broad training in biology with emphasis in aquaculture or fish biology
- Advanced technical training, operational work experience, or professional certification in addition to degree requirements
- Experience showing outreach, publications, research experience, successful grantsmanship, and commitment to undergraduate education
- Prior successful leadership experience in organizing, managing and directing projects and programs within a collaborative professional team
- Successful experience in classroom and/or laboratory teaching, workshop training, and/or on-site instruction and technical assistance
- Experience in developing and managing grants/contracts
- Prior experience working with Native cultures and rural communities
- Knowledge of web 2.0 tools, including online social networking as applicable to higher education
- Experience using web-based course development and delivery software, such as PowerPoint, Blackboard, Breeze, and/or Lectora
- Experience teaching blended, hybrid or fully online courses in a higher education environment
1) Provide administrative leadership in the continued development, implementation and expansion of the UAS Fisheries Technology (FT) program. Responsibilities include leadership in setting goals and objectives in conjunction with the University, State and Federal agencies, Native organizations, industry organizations, and fisheries related business owners and operators. Includes development of grant and contract opportunities and administrative oversight of grant and contract agreements. Also includes budget preparation and administration for grants, contracts and general university funds, as well as supervision of assigned staff and workload assignments for program faculty and outreach coordinators. Perform activities as Principal Investigator associated with grants and contracts. Maintain active FT advisory council. Complete annual assessments of program outcomes required for accreditation. Ensure successful implementation of goals and strategies specified in UAS Strategic and Assessment Plan, program reviews and annual assessments.
2) Support University of Alaska bipartite mission of developing and teaching up to 12 credits of lower division FT related courses using a variety of eLearning delivery methods, including computer-aided instruction and course management systems. Primary teaching focus will be FT using appropriate methodologies and modalities to develop and deliver instruction via the classroom, workshop, seminar, or Web.
3) Provide non-credit and professional development training and technical assistance to FT related organizations, owners, operators, and managers; communication and coordination with Federal and State regulatory agencies and private sector organizations throughout Alaska. Develop training products, train hatchery operators and managers, and provide on-site technical assistance. Deliver training workshops on FT/mariculture operations and management.
4) Support University of Alaska bipartite mission of providing university and public service as outlined in faculty workload. Mentor and supervise students. Faculty is expected to hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught.
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
